What is Virtualization?
Virtualization is a proven software technology that is rapidly transforming the IT landscape and fundamentally changing the way that people compute. Today’s powerful x86 computer hardware was designed to run a single operating system and a single application. This leaves most machines vastly underutilized. Virtualization lets you run multiple virtual machines on a single physical machine, sharing the resources of that single computer across multiple environments. Different virtual machines can run different operating systems and multiple applications on the same physical computer.
Implementing virtualisation offers a dramatic increase in the utilisation, efficiency and availability or resources, applications and services within your organisation. Investigation will show that many of your current resources will be underutilised, using the "one platform, one application" model, whilst your IT Admin staff will waste time managing solutions as opposed to innovating more efficient working practices.
Having an automated, virtualised datacentre allows your organisation to be more dynamic, respond quicker to changing market conditions and take advantage of the latest applications faster.
Virtualisation can deliver resources, applications, even servers when and where they are needed. Typically an organisation can expect to save 50-70% on overall IT costs by consolidating resource pools to increase utilisation, delivering high availabilty services and reducing operating costs.
Virtualising your environment offers you the following advantages:
- Run multiple operating systems on a single computer.
- Allows MACs to run Windows, creating a virtual PC environment for all your widows applications
- A reduction in your capital cost and expenditure by increasing the energy efficiency of your data centre, purchasing less hardware, and increasing your server to admin ratios
- Helps ensure your applications perform at the highest levels of availability and performance
- Offers significant improvement in Business Continuity Planning through an improved Disaster Recovery Solution
- Achieve significant improvements in High Availability configurations at a cost justifiable price point
Improve enterprise desktop control with faster deployments and updates, whilst reducing the number of, and MTTR of your desktop support calls.
